Lets provide bonuses to schools that show the largest gains in Parental Attendance at school functions. Lets provide bonuses to motivate school districts and administrators to get out there, on the streets, and bring parents into the schools. Lets spend government tax dollars on educating impoverished and/or jobless parents on creating quality home environment structures. Lets provide bonuses to schools that provide classes for parents to educate them on strategies, techniques and methods of learning so that they may be better advocates for their own children's learning, as well as, for their sons or daughters teacher/s. Lets provide bonuses for schools that ensure that the triangle of success is the focus. Lets stop passing the buck, finger pointing and blaming others for the low academic success and poor behavior of students; and worse yet lets stop dangling cash carrots to those whom you blame for the educational crisis. Teachers know that the educational success of a student under their tutelage is not only the result of their hard work and dedication but also that of everyone that touches that young persons life everyday. Simply stated, bonuses in education are prioritizing educational spending, lets not fool ourselves into thinking its something else.
In most careers an individuals success at the work place is rewarded in the form of profit sharing, bonuses, a stipend or some other type of a financial benefit. Teaching is the farthest thing from "most" careers. In the field of education the rewards are human success and there is no monetary measuring stick for such results. There is no price tag for the glow of a students' face at the end of a school year. This glow is no different for the "A+" student, the "C-" student or even the "failing" student. Success in school has many faces; it is not always a letter grade or a standardized test score. In the world of education the finished product is human self esteem. Ultimately if more attention (and money) were spent on getting all families involved in the educational process of their children the future financial gains would be limitless. Truly teachers entered the profession to make this world a better place for everyone. Teachers want to be paid and respected like the professionals they are; they don't want bonuses for quality student test scores on standardized tests that prove nothing about their dedication. Rather lets reinvest in our families properly America!
